March Game Announcements
A Word From Your Mod Team
We had an exciting first month, didn't we? And hello to the new players as well! We're looking forward to seeing you all in-game.
What Changes Are Coming?
As we've processed some activity and responded to your actions, you've doubtless seen us reference a few new things! The two biggest ones are:
- Positive regard. Positive regard from NPCs is just that -- you've earned a measure of that NPC's respect, trust, or fondness. Though there is no hard-and-fast guideline to what this means, in some ways it might be considered like a currency. Using a level of positive regard from an NPC could get them to ignore catching you in a restricted area. Using ten levels of positive regard on the Headmaster could get her to teach you the secrets of Thinking Spells.
- Familiar Bond. Those who have worked on enhancing their bond with their familiars will find benefits accrue! We will be updating the familiar page this month to explain this.
In general, if we think your actions can result in a fun mechanic, we'll develop one for it to reflect your off-camera time in Diatu. Let us know if you have more ideas you wish to pursue!
This Month In Diatu
Spring Weather is, frankly, terrible. Rain pours down almost without end, an unfortunate side-effect of Ascelion's elevated position. The campus is wet and muddy, slippery and messy. Golems roam the halls and the classrooms, aggressively cleaning up water and dirt and occasionally students. Classes Continue and students are now starting to venture into uncharted territory -- be it their first real spells for new arrivals, or the advanced new techniques of their next-level courses. Despite the wards and protections over the classrooms and labs, things tend to get a bit wacky around this time. Strange mists spill into hallways, students quickly fling bubbling potions out windows before they explode, someone forgets to carry the two and Modifies their desk into a dinosaur... The Bala-inlota Game features the Striking Fists of Diatu, the school's professional team, against the Exarthin Wildfires. Excitement is rampant, especially among those who've never seen a Bala-inlota game before, and team spirit and merchandising both run rampant leading up to this inaugural game of the season.
This Month In Anastara
Bala-inlota Fever grips the town in anticipation of the big game, but not everyone in the city is unified behind the Striking Fists. The Wildfires have a small but fanatic contingent within the city, and tempers are running high this year. Step into an establishment with the wrong team logo on, and you might find yourself turned down and turned out. Wear nothing at all, though, and expect to get quizzed on who you support. Better give the right answer!
Adventures
As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days.
We were surprised at the speed with which you all reached your adventure staging points or ends! To that extent, we'll be trying our best to respond more quickly to your thread posts or completed adventures, to keep us from being a bottleneck in your fun.
Actions
To represent characters working long-term towards a goal, you can submit up to two actions on the appropriate comment below that your character will be focusing their time towards (or one action twice). This can range from studying, to exploration, to trying to gain points for the Colormarch, to buttering up NPCs, to others. At the end of the month, once you submit AC, you will be given your results.
BBS Question!
With no clear consensus, we have elected to leave the network community open to all communications. Players may still use inboxes if they desire, but are not obligated to. At our current size, we think this will not lead to the network being dominated by individual conversations. We may change this in the future if we decide this determination is having negative effects, of course.
Feedback and the Future!
Now that many of you have been here and experienced the game for a month, we want to ask you: where would you like to see the game go? Is there a focus you'd like from us? Something you want to see? Some way in which we can improve? What is working well, and what do you enjoy? For example, an NPC inbox or ways to interact with the NPCs in detail; house events or inter-house competitions; large-scale adventure plots? This is your place to have fun as much as it is ours to run, so we want to know what you like and what you would like!
Monthly Mod Plans
We still have a few things to do for the monthly turnover, so we're letting you know now what our agenda is:
- Update Locations to include all new discovered areas
- Update Adventures with new options
- Update NPCs with an explanation of regard
- Update Familiars with an explanation of Familiar Bond
- Create a Religion page to explain the religion of the Tenscore Kingdoms
Our event log will be posted tomorrow or Friday no later than 8 pm. We can't wait to see you all on it. Enjoy your RP! |
Adventures
Re: Adventures
That said, I would like Cliff here to undertake "Geese!", please.
no subject
A flock of geese has determinedly settled in a pond on campus, and are busy doing goosey things such as being incredible jerks to anyone who comes nearby and making nests. This is bad enough, but these geese have an incredible fondness for snatching wands, magical foci, and Forged items, and worse, they seem capable of using them.
To determine just what is going on, the Magicademy has sought out volunteers to capture a goose alive. They promise to pay your funeral expenses in the very likely chance you are goosed to death.

(Sora and whoever is with him will pass Stage 1 with a roll of 15.)
Inside, Sora will find that a famous gambler, 'Deuce-Queen Jack," is jovially taking all comers on in a vicious game of Griphand Poker. Please supply a link to a thread once Sora and his companions have decided what to do once inside.

Sho: Let's go with the guy with the going, because ridiculous suits him.
V: Potion Peril, please!

Rumor around campus speaks of a building that only appears under certain circumstances -- during a storm? When it's dark? During a full moon? You set out to investigate.
You have passed Stage 1 with a roll of 11.
As it happens, the building only appears when lightning illuminates it! The front door appears to be open, but can you actually make it through the front door properly in the brief flashes of its presence? Perhaps you need a plan!
Please provide a link to the thread once you have made an attempt to breach the door.
Sho:
The crashing sound of a gong keeps disturbing people around campus. During class, during lunch, late at night... who keeps doing that? If it's a prank, it isn't funny. Find out who it is!
You have succeeded at stage 1 with a roll of 18.
The gong-wielder turn out to be a grim and grizzled old man who treats gong-ringing like it's the only thing standing between humanity and death. Once you finally manage to corner him... what will you do?
Please respond when you have acted against the old man in some way. We will use your thread to provide you with your roll for Stage 2.
V:
It's a bad time to be in the lab area. Just as you're walking by, you hear a scream, a door pops open, and a flaming, frothing flask flies out -- straight at you!
Please provide a link to a thread when you and any others with you have reacted in some way. We will use your thread to provide you with your roll for results.
Gong Gong Gone (CW: Violence.)
But at least there was some good news. There was a 0.00001% chance that this yoctogram was right and humanity would be erased if the sound stopped. Well. Two birds one stone was just good math. But one attack and the whole human race? Zetta sweet.
This would be that thing where Sho thinks this is a UG, and thus it is his best shot at becoming Composer of this region... if he erases everyone here who doesn't serve him. Oh he might have gotten distracted by the chance to teach math and art and stuff, but this? Becoming Composer? What more could an ambitious reaper want?
So when he got from the fool that this was what he was doing? The math was too beautiful to pass out.
"INFINITY!!!!!!!!!" Was all the warning he gave before enacting his i flare attack. But apparently the attack was imaginary because he didn't have the magic back to make it happen. Well fine.
She smacked the pin on his chest. "GIVE ME A REASON!!!!!"
You ever see what a motivated falcon could do to the human body?
"This yoctogram is garbage," he told his familiar, a mania in his eyes. "CRUNCH! Add him to the heap!"
(So basically, yes, Sho Minamimoto is going to be attempting to kill an old man. Quite possibly with his own gong. And if he is successful, he plans to use both man and gong in an art tower in the middle of campus. Such a lovely shade of red.....)

You have passed Stage 1 with a roll of 12.
You are able to convince the wizard you can get it there in time! He promises to pay well and sing your praises if you can manage it. But no sooner do you set out than it seems everything is going wrong! Boxes litter the roads. Workmen walk across the street carrying inconvenient panes of glass. Geese wander in from another adventure prompt to nip at your heels! Can you make it despite all this?
Please provide a link to your thread when you and your allies have done your best to get to the docks. We will use your thread to provide you with your roll for Stage 2.

Famed lightnoisist Gurancha Heralda, to the surprise of everyone, booked a one-night-only performance at Corastra Hall with dirt-cheap prices. This promises to be the hit event of the year, or competition for it anyway -- but by the time you and your companions get to the ticket booth, they've sold out of tickets!
How will you get in to see Heralda now?
Please provide a link to the thread once you have made your attempt and we will provide you with your roll results.
Fluttershy:
Something strange is going on with Ballet. She's restless, irritable, aggressive, and prone to causing trouble. Can Fluttershy figure out what's going on?
You have passed Stage 1 with a roll of 11 (1, modified by +10 for being Fluttershy).
After some effort, you at last suss out Ballet's issue: her rival, Tango the Land Dolphin, is coming to town! When last they parted, the pair had done nothing more than leave scars on each other's bellies, but now Tango has surely improved and Ballet is concerned her swordswhaleship can't stand up to his speardolphinship. How will Fluttershy respond?
Please provide a link to the thread once you and your allies have in some way prepared Ballet for the battle ahead or otherwise responded.

Dialogue with the ghost-building having failed, you return after some research and are able to mutter a brief Thaumaturgy spell to stabilize the doorway long enough to enter.
Once she and her allies are inside, the building stabilizes around them. Its ethereal form seems completely ravaged by fire, likely the source of its destruction. It appears to be some sort of council building.
Please provide a link to the thread once you and your allies have made efforts to investigate the building. We will use your thread to determine what you learn or gain.

Challenging Mittens to a rematch, you make a few key adjustments to your deck and sabotage the One-Turn-Kill combo. After a vicious game which ends when a moon crashes into Mittens' draw piles, which then falls into a random sea and decks Mittens out, the cat has no choice but to acknowledge you as her superior.
The next day, you receive an obscure message in rebus form which informs you to travel to the a building on campus called Isolde Tower. However, as soon as you reach it, a pair of card ninjas appear and challenge you to a hidden deck game!
Please provide a link to the thread once you and your allies have engaged the ninjas.
