March Game Announcements
A Word From Your Mod Team
We had an exciting first month, didn't we? And hello to the new players as well! We're looking forward to seeing you all in-game.
What Changes Are Coming?
As we've processed some activity and responded to your actions, you've doubtless seen us reference a few new things! The two biggest ones are:
- Positive regard. Positive regard from NPCs is just that -- you've earned a measure of that NPC's respect, trust, or fondness. Though there is no hard-and-fast guideline to what this means, in some ways it might be considered like a currency. Using a level of positive regard from an NPC could get them to ignore catching you in a restricted area. Using ten levels of positive regard on the Headmaster could get her to teach you the secrets of Thinking Spells.
- Familiar Bond. Those who have worked on enhancing their bond with their familiars will find benefits accrue! We will be updating the familiar page this month to explain this.
In general, if we think your actions can result in a fun mechanic, we'll develop one for it to reflect your off-camera time in Diatu. Let us know if you have more ideas you wish to pursue!
This Month In Diatu
Spring Weather is, frankly, terrible. Rain pours down almost without end, an unfortunate side-effect of Ascelion's elevated position. The campus is wet and muddy, slippery and messy. Golems roam the halls and the classrooms, aggressively cleaning up water and dirt and occasionally students. Classes Continue and students are now starting to venture into uncharted territory -- be it their first real spells for new arrivals, or the advanced new techniques of their next-level courses. Despite the wards and protections over the classrooms and labs, things tend to get a bit wacky around this time. Strange mists spill into hallways, students quickly fling bubbling potions out windows before they explode, someone forgets to carry the two and Modifies their desk into a dinosaur... The Bala-inlota Game features the Striking Fists of Diatu, the school's professional team, against the Exarthin Wildfires. Excitement is rampant, especially among those who've never seen a Bala-inlota game before, and team spirit and merchandising both run rampant leading up to this inaugural game of the season.
This Month In Anastara
Bala-inlota Fever grips the town in anticipation of the big game, but not everyone in the city is unified behind the Striking Fists. The Wildfires have a small but fanatic contingent within the city, and tempers are running high this year. Step into an establishment with the wrong team logo on, and you might find yourself turned down and turned out. Wear nothing at all, though, and expect to get quizzed on who you support. Better give the right answer!
Adventures
As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days.
We were surprised at the speed with which you all reached your adventure staging points or ends! To that extent, we'll be trying our best to respond more quickly to your thread posts or completed adventures, to keep us from being a bottleneck in your fun.
Actions
To represent characters working long-term towards a goal, you can submit up to two actions on the appropriate comment below that your character will be focusing their time towards (or one action twice). This can range from studying, to exploration, to trying to gain points for the Colormarch, to buttering up NPCs, to others. At the end of the month, once you submit AC, you will be given your results.
BBS Question!
With no clear consensus, we have elected to leave the network community open to all communications. Players may still use inboxes if they desire, but are not obligated to. At our current size, we think this will not lead to the network being dominated by individual conversations. We may change this in the future if we decide this determination is having negative effects, of course.
Feedback and the Future!
Now that many of you have been here and experienced the game for a month, we want to ask you: where would you like to see the game go? Is there a focus you'd like from us? Something you want to see? Some way in which we can improve? What is working well, and what do you enjoy? For example, an NPC inbox or ways to interact with the NPCs in detail; house events or inter-house competitions; large-scale adventure plots? This is your place to have fun as much as it is ours to run, so we want to know what you like and what you would like!
Monthly Mod Plans
We still have a few things to do for the monthly turnover, so we're letting you know now what our agenda is:
- Update Locations to include all new discovered areas
- Update Adventures with new options
- Update NPCs with an explanation of regard
- Update Familiars with an explanation of Familiar Bond
- Create a Religion page to explain the religion of the Tenscore Kingdoms
Our event log will be posted tomorrow or Friday no later than 8 pm. We can't wait to see you all on it. Enjoy your RP! |

and because card games i'd like to use the reward given from participating in last month's research on this roll; foresight.

The foil-card wizard challenges all three of them to a DEFINITIVE DUEL, angrily correcting anyone if they refer to it in anything less than all-caps. This wizard has unbelievable foils that outweigh anything any one person can bring to the table, and even three-on-one the Yugiohers struggle to match him. Inevitably, it all comes down to one final draw for Yugi, who manages to draw a ridiculous common card that just somehow happens to collapse the entire game state into a brutal loss for the wizard. The effort of rendering this shorts out the hologram spell, and moments later the wizard tumbles out from behind a curtain, having Wizard-of-Ozzed this whole thing up till now.
With no choice but to acknowledge your skill, the wizard mournfully gives you the Deathtoll card, which is some sort of anime-Exodia-level bullshit, and offers a warning: Fantastic Foils are more than they seem! MORE THAN THEY SEEEEEM! He collapses then, gasping for breath -- which he immediately finds, then demands to know why you all are still here.
Congratulations on passing A Children's Card Game!
Yugi receives a Special Item:
The Deathtoll Card.
?????????????????
Atem recieves a Special Item:
The Millennium Idol
This mysterious item looks like a pyramid, but in truth it is a puzzle! When its pieces are folded, shifted, slid, or manipulated in just the right sequence, the Idol can be turned into the shape of a bird -- which them comes to life. This bird, known as the Millennium Falcon, faithfully serves the Idol's master as a familiar would.
Kaiba receives a Special Item:
The Foilist's Coat
This amazing and stylish coat is a relic of Sundering, for it contains pockets in its inside lining far deeper and wider than they should be. Objects placed in these pockets become weightless and lose all bulk, allowing its wearer to carry around countless small items without being burdened by them. It was originally designed for card-gamers to pack lunch and drinks, so they could engage in 24-hour game marathons that involve cross-country air travel without needing to stop for food.
Perhaps a better power, however, is that it constantly blows in an unseen wind, all super-dramatic.

edit: or perhaps talk to mittens about it xD

Mittens, however, seems more willing to help, if somewhat nonverbal. Taking the cards and shuffling them, Mittens lays out a card face down, then The Sealed Door, and then Deathtoll on top of that.

Mittens is a pal. Yugi is going to have to get her some fish or catnip... assuming she'd like either of those things. Yugi will quietly watch with marked interest, his head tilting to the side as he asks if Deathtoll is the key to opening the Sealed Door.

But that's a very positive meow.

But that's a very negative meow.

He appreciates the help, Mittens. Would she like some fish?
