March Game Announcements
A Word From Your Mod Team
We had an exciting first month, didn't we? And hello to the new players as well! We're looking forward to seeing you all in-game.
What Changes Are Coming?
As we've processed some activity and responded to your actions, you've doubtless seen us reference a few new things! The two biggest ones are:
- Positive regard. Positive regard from NPCs is just that -- you've earned a measure of that NPC's respect, trust, or fondness. Though there is no hard-and-fast guideline to what this means, in some ways it might be considered like a currency. Using a level of positive regard from an NPC could get them to ignore catching you in a restricted area. Using ten levels of positive regard on the Headmaster could get her to teach you the secrets of Thinking Spells.
- Familiar Bond. Those who have worked on enhancing their bond with their familiars will find benefits accrue! We will be updating the familiar page this month to explain this.
In general, if we think your actions can result in a fun mechanic, we'll develop one for it to reflect your off-camera time in Diatu. Let us know if you have more ideas you wish to pursue!
This Month In Diatu
Spring Weather is, frankly, terrible. Rain pours down almost without end, an unfortunate side-effect of Ascelion's elevated position. The campus is wet and muddy, slippery and messy. Golems roam the halls and the classrooms, aggressively cleaning up water and dirt and occasionally students. Classes Continue and students are now starting to venture into uncharted territory -- be it their first real spells for new arrivals, or the advanced new techniques of their next-level courses. Despite the wards and protections over the classrooms and labs, things tend to get a bit wacky around this time. Strange mists spill into hallways, students quickly fling bubbling potions out windows before they explode, someone forgets to carry the two and Modifies their desk into a dinosaur... The Bala-inlota Game features the Striking Fists of Diatu, the school's professional team, against the Exarthin Wildfires. Excitement is rampant, especially among those who've never seen a Bala-inlota game before, and team spirit and merchandising both run rampant leading up to this inaugural game of the season.
This Month In Anastara
Bala-inlota Fever grips the town in anticipation of the big game, but not everyone in the city is unified behind the Striking Fists. The Wildfires have a small but fanatic contingent within the city, and tempers are running high this year. Step into an establishment with the wrong team logo on, and you might find yourself turned down and turned out. Wear nothing at all, though, and expect to get quizzed on who you support. Better give the right answer!
Adventures
As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days.
We were surprised at the speed with which you all reached your adventure staging points or ends! To that extent, we'll be trying our best to respond more quickly to your thread posts or completed adventures, to keep us from being a bottleneck in your fun.
Actions
To represent characters working long-term towards a goal, you can submit up to two actions on the appropriate comment below that your character will be focusing their time towards (or one action twice). This can range from studying, to exploration, to trying to gain points for the Colormarch, to buttering up NPCs, to others. At the end of the month, once you submit AC, you will be given your results.
BBS Question!
With no clear consensus, we have elected to leave the network community open to all communications. Players may still use inboxes if they desire, but are not obligated to. At our current size, we think this will not lead to the network being dominated by individual conversations. We may change this in the future if we decide this determination is having negative effects, of course.
Feedback and the Future!
Now that many of you have been here and experienced the game for a month, we want to ask you: where would you like to see the game go? Is there a focus you'd like from us? Something you want to see? Some way in which we can improve? What is working well, and what do you enjoy? For example, an NPC inbox or ways to interact with the NPCs in detail; house events or inter-house competitions; large-scale adventure plots? This is your place to have fun as much as it is ours to run, so we want to know what you like and what you would like!
Monthly Mod Plans
We still have a few things to do for the monthly turnover, so we're letting you know now what our agenda is:
- Update Locations to include all new discovered areas
- Update Adventures with new options
- Update NPCs with an explanation of regard
- Update Familiars with an explanation of Familiar Bond
- Create a Religion page to explain the religion of the Tenscore Kingdoms
Our event log will be posted tomorrow or Friday no later than 8 pm. We can't wait to see you all on it. Enjoy your RP! |

Famed lightnoisist Gurancha Heralda, to the surprise of everyone, booked a one-night-only performance at Corastra Hall with dirt-cheap prices. This promises to be the hit event of the year, or competition for it anyway -- but by the time you and your companions get to the ticket booth, they've sold out of tickets!
How will you get in to see Heralda now?
Please provide a link to the thread once you have made your attempt and we will provide you with your roll results.
Fluttershy:
Something strange is going on with Ballet. She's restless, irritable, aggressive, and prone to causing trouble. Can Fluttershy figure out what's going on?
You have passed Stage 1 with a roll of 11 (1, modified by +10 for being Fluttershy).
After some effort, you at last suss out Ballet's issue: her rival, Tango the Land Dolphin, is coming to town! When last they parted, the pair had done nothing more than leave scars on each other's bellies, but now Tango has surely improved and Ballet is concerned her swordswhaleship can't stand up to his speardolphinship. How will Fluttershy respond?
Please provide a link to the thread once you and your allies have in some way prepared Ballet for the battle ahead or otherwise responded.

Successfully sneaking in, you manage to blend in among the crowd and watch the performance. Heralda's lightnoise display, conducted underneath the stormy sky and resembling what would be called a Tesla coil performance if a Tesla coil were involved, is both riveting and educational to a trio of student wizards. All three ducks will both find themselves understanding and utilizing magic involving lightning and electricity at a slightly higher level of proficiency.

Training goes excellently, and the different styles offered give Ballet confidence in her improvement.
However, training is interrupted one day by the sudden appearance of Tango the Land Dolphin, who stands aloofly on a tower parapet, cape billowing in the wind as he dramatically turns to ... call challenge? Taunt Ballet?
As it turns out, no one speaks Land Dolphin. Including Ballet. But she's raring to go right now! Tango, meanwhile, despondently takes a swig from a flask to soothe the sting of his cool arrival being ruined.
Please provide a thread when you've chosen a direction for this adventure to take and are ready for your success roll.

This remain's March's adventure and you may take a new one in April as well as continuing this one. You may respond here or on April's game announcement, whichever you prefer. We get the notifications either way, after all!

The battlefield goes quiet for a moment until Ballet emerges, with a slight scratch on her side. It seems she's losing! Meanwhile, Tango jumps out of the ground nearby like a playful dolphin... except he is an agitated dolphin, instead! What could possibly be going on here? And why does Tango keep swimming near a bush of flowers, then darting away?

A horrified Tango leaps into the air, thrashing agitatedly and letting out all sorts of chastising squeaks and chirps at the two. Ballet seems shocked by what he said! Then, as soon as he dives back into the earth, Tango swims off, leaving only a piece of paper behind.
Ballet has not died, at least. Is that victory? Or do you need to do more with this story?

I'm trying for a happy ending, dangit XDno subject
Tango is an old nemesis of Ballet's, after all, so she knows something of how he thinks. She is able to track him to an old, crumbled tower, where he is dramatically perched on the roof where the wind can make his cape billow and he looks terribly Byronic. But having found him... now what?

Tango agrees to submit to the spell. Now able to communicate, he reveals that he'd planned to battle Ballet till one of them clearly won, then ask her to the Twilight Ball.
Ballet becomes the joke of a punchline by now being black and white and red all over. Do you approve of this bizarre courtship as fitting and suitable, or is the power dynamic between them too messed up to understand and maybe they should try asking each other out without weapons being involved?

+2 Familiar Bond with Ballet
Special Familiar:
Tango the Land Dolphin
Looks like Tango has decided to stick around, and while he's here he might as well help you out! A master speardolphin, Tango specializes in speed and agility. His stylish cape makes him look extra-awesome and he is inexplicably capable of appearing on high perches for dramatic effect. His one major flaw is that he's constantly sneaking into wine cellars to abscond with fine vintages.
