That Wand Is a Wonder!

You pulled down a book from a tall shelf in the Library of Starchime and promptly got hit in the head by a wand that was resting atop it. It looks innocuous, a cylinder of wood, but as soon as you pick it up, light streams out of the end. The barest motion is enough to make fantastic colors, and with a gesture you send light streaming across the library!

Light is all it does, right? Right?

Pranks for the Memories

Diatu Magicademy is a school -- one with different social groups, different Houses, different classes, different levels of experience... in short, pranks are inevitable. The latest one to make the rounds is the Sticky Glyph: step on a certain mathematical rune and the next person you touch sticks to you like glue. Casually brush against them, shake their hand, bump backwards into them -- however you did it, you have a new friend now, like it or not. The glyph wears off in about an hour -- do you wait it out, ask for help, or try to undo it yourself?

The Dueling Club

One of the more popular magical clubs, the Dueling Club is precisely as it sounds: wizards crossing spells, each trying to be the one to 'defeat' their opponent. How to do that varies by the sort of duel -- knocking your opponent off a platform, or getting them wet, or just good old rendering them unable to keep dueling. Less experienced students, like you, get the "water duel" treatment. Use your spells to get your opponent off of their stool in a small pool of water before they do the same to you! Losing means soggy shoes and a laugh at your expense; winning means pride, respect, and a chance for advancement into the club's informal ranks.

Chimera!

Transporting chimera is highly illegal without proper permits -- which is precisely why smugglers do it, and precisely why smugglers are valiantly struggling to extinguish their airship, while the beast responsible ambles down the gangplank and people flee like crazy. A small chimera, its shoulders are about shoulder height to a man. The goat head jabs at the cargo and building it passes, the lion head maintains a watchful forward guard, and the dragon head has taken the "burn it all, burn it all!" approach to greeting its new circumstances.

This is your chance to be a hero, and save the city of Anastara from certain doom at this beast's claws, heads, horns, and fiery breath. Or your chance to run like heck and hope it doesn't notice you.

While the winged warrior was up there being all heroic and all, there stood a notably unimpressed Goddess on top of one of the nearby structures that was on the outskirts of Anastara. Rolling her shoulders, she gave a plaintive sigh.

"A gigantic beast with a multitude of heads wreaking havoc in a residential area? Typical." It was a rather day to day occurrence in Greece, not that Aphrodite usually involved herself in such matters.

Still, she cupped her hands around her mouth to offer some words of encouragement even though somehow they still managed to come out sounding half-hearted. "You're doing great up there, just watch out for the head in the middle it's-" Before she can get it out, the middle dragon head is spitting fire at the Valkyrie, and she narrowly evaded it. You can see some smoke rising from the tips of her feathers. Aphrodite winces a bit, "Yikes, that was a close one. Ya might want to fly a little faster."

"Right..."

She dodged right, avoiding the swipe of the chimera's paw again.

"Fly faster..."

Then left as the tail lashed out to try and scoop her out of the air.

"I'll keep that in mind!"

This was getting kind of pathetic to watch. What would possess someone to take on a behemoth of this size without... I don't know, a weapon, divine intervention, or an entire army? Still, the aerial acrobatics were working for the Valkyrie so far. Jutting out a hip, and placing one hand on it Aphrodite conceded that she might just have to lift a finger to help or something.

With her free hand extended before her she traces a series of complicated symbols in the air before her. Adapting to the sort of magic employed here hadn't exactly been a breeze but she'd stuck to what she knew best.

The air seemed to feel charged by some unseen force, then curiously the Chimera halted his rampage. "He should follow you anywhere now...... I just wouldn't let him get too friendly until the spell wears off." All four of the monsters heads were looking at Skuld with adoration written in their eyes now.

"Oh, he stopped?"

Skuld blinked at the creature and then at the oddly pink glowing person, some one she hadn't met before but whatever the lady had done seemed to have worked, and not one to hold a grudge once the battle was over she flitted closer to the now tamed Chimera.

"It's ok now, you just wanted to go back home didn't you? I'll show you the--... WAaaaaaa"

The chimera was quick and it's leap into the air too fast to avoid. Skuld was pounced and given a good strong lick from a lion's tongue. Pinned to the ground by her wings there wasn't much else to do but laugh at the absurdity of the situation.

"Whatever you did sure made him friendly!"

"They don't call me the Goddess of Love for nothing," She paused for a moment as if she expected something else to happen, but nothing did. On the one hand the whole theme song striking up whenever she announced herself had gotten on her nerves too, but now that it was absent she sort of missed it. Emphasis on sort of.

"... And there you go, already not heeding my warning." That was typical too. At least for the moment the chaos was averted. There was just one problem with that. "You know, I'm not really sure how long that spell will last."

Aphrodite decided to go ahead and explain. "This isn't exactly my realm either so while I'm sure I can make that sort of charm last for days normally, it could just be a matter of moments here. So if you and your new boyfriend don't want to have the worst breakup in history I'd free yourself and hurry up. Chop chop." Stressing the importance of moving this along.

"The Goddess of Love? Then you are an Aesir! I thought so! Not many of the people I've seen here actually glow like that."

Flat on her back with the giant temporarily friendly chimera holding her in place it was difficult to carry on a conversation but that wouldn't stop her from trying even as she struggled under the weight of the creature. Placing a hand on it's furry cheek she gave the lion head a gentle push only to have the eagle head come in for a pet, and pushing that one away brought the dragon with it's super heated breath to steam her hair. This wasn't getting her anywhere!

"It's actually pretty cute now. I know you said you don't live around here but do you know where these creatures live? I do think he would do better at home."

She thought back to class and considered all the spells she had heard but hadn't really remembered... it had only her first day of school! She couldn't be expected to remember everything right away. But that one spell might work... Skuld closed her eyes and chanted the words while twirling her finger in the ways and methods she recalled the motions having been made in. The air around her waving hand began to glow and then it floated away, taking up residence in the middle of the road and growing ever larger, gradually taking shape until the entire street erupted into a lavish picnic setup. There was fried chicken, salad, fruit galore, skewers of meat on impressively large pikes, and wonderful desserts of all shapes colors and density of frostings. A feast fit for a Goddess or in this case a Chimera!

Naturally the large animal bounded over to get some of that meat and Skuld once free was right behind him, collecting one of the giant meat kabobs and tucking into it before recalling her manners.

"I'm sorry, would you like some?"

She was free at least.

"Aesir? Wait. Isn't that a Norse term?" Looking down at the Valkyrie with a scrutinizing gaze. She was aware of some of the other Pantheons but they usually didn't run into one another on a regular basis. "That would explain a lot actually".

So far this was kind of a disaster, at least there wasn't anyone else here to witness it. This might have been worse than the time Aphrodite turned that clay sculpture into a real girl because at least that was designed to teach someone a lesson. This whole chimera thing was just random.

"Here? I wouldn't have a clue." Eluding to the fact that she was as new to Anastara as she was. "I doubt anything this large was even originally from this floating rock". Simply because, where would it hide? Recognizing the motions that the winged girl was making, Aphrodite awaited to see what what spell was being cast. Somehow she didn't expect a feast to appear that would rival one of Bacchus's parties. Reluctantly, she resorted to walking over to a staircase and down to the ground level. This not knowing how to teleport thing was getting so old. She sidled up to the celebration in time to have the question posed to her. "Na uh, no can do. I'm watching this waistline." Who knows that magically conjured food could do to your hips alone.

"Mm!"

She nodded quickly making the affirmative noise around a bite of cake while still holding that large skewer of meat. The town where the chimera had rampaged through was kinda... sorta... a disaster, but the chimera itself seemed content now to lay on the picnic blanket and gnaw on it's cooked meat.

"I'm from Asgard."

Midgard originally but she didn't immediately sail into her backstory. Maybe after they came to know one another better.

"And if you are the Goddess of Love you must be from Mount Olympus, right? Did Zeus send you here to train? I think that is what must have happened to me. Omnipotent Odin must have sent me here to learn this new magic. I think it must be important to stop Ragnarok!"

She beamed, before setting her cake aside and holding out a friendly hand.

"I would be glad to work with you to save both of our worlds."
