That Wand Is a Wonder!

You pulled down a book from a tall shelf in the Library of Starchime and promptly got hit in the head by a wand that was resting atop it. It looks innocuous, a cylinder of wood, but as soon as you pick it up, light streams out of the end. The barest motion is enough to make fantastic colors, and with a gesture you send light streaming across the library!

Light is all it does, right? Right?

Pranks for the Memories

Diatu Magicademy is a school -- one with different social groups, different Houses, different classes, different levels of experience... in short, pranks are inevitable. The latest one to make the rounds is the Sticky Glyph: step on a certain mathematical rune and the next person you touch sticks to you like glue. Casually brush against them, shake their hand, bump backwards into them -- however you did it, you have a new friend now, like it or not. The glyph wears off in about an hour -- do you wait it out, ask for help, or try to undo it yourself?

The Dueling Club

One of the more popular magical clubs, the Dueling Club is precisely as it sounds: wizards crossing spells, each trying to be the one to 'defeat' their opponent. How to do that varies by the sort of duel -- knocking your opponent off a platform, or getting them wet, or just good old rendering them unable to keep dueling. Less experienced students, like you, get the "water duel" treatment. Use your spells to get your opponent off of their stool in a small pool of water before they do the same to you! Losing means soggy shoes and a laugh at your expense; winning means pride, respect, and a chance for advancement into the club's informal ranks.

Chimera!

Transporting chimera is highly illegal without proper permits -- which is precisely why smugglers do it, and precisely why smugglers are valiantly struggling to extinguish their airship, while the beast responsible ambles down the gangplank and people flee like crazy. A small chimera, its shoulders are about shoulder height to a man. The goat head jabs at the cargo and building it passes, the lion head maintains a watchful forward guard, and the dragon head has taken the "burn it all, burn it all!" approach to greeting its new circumstances.

This is your chance to be a hero, and save the city of Anastara from certain doom at this beast's claws, heads, horns, and fiery breath. Or your chance to run like heck and hope it doesn't notice you.

[Oh, this one seems much more confident than the rest have been. Mizael smirks and shifts into a more ready stance, with his right hand tight around his wand and his left raised and ready to perform those spells that don't need a wand (which, frankly, he prefers). It's a stance that certainly resembles another kind of dueling, although that's mostly a coincidence.]

Let's see if you can back up that attitude. [And with no other warning than that, he jerks his wand toward Chazz in a gesture that is really too complicated for something this simple.] Force bolt!

[Let's just hope that confidence isn't for naught, and that this will actually be a match worth the price of admission. Chazz keeps his eyes trained on the blond, noting the familiar motions but not commenting on them. This is another guy that's used to not backing down, he can appreciate that but he fully intends on putting an end to that winning streak right here and now.]

Oh believe me, I can and will. [Before he's even fully in position the first shot is lobbed toward him] You might be bringing the lightning but, I'll bring the thunder! [Quickly conjuring a spell to counter, the air begins to heat up around him, and the arena begins to rumble. As the bolt gets near enough it seems to be reflected by an invisible barrier, narrowly missing striking one of the spectators]

[The energy seems to dissipate as quickly as it was called upon.] You didn't think that first year spell really had a chance did you? [Chazz needed to do a little less talking and a little more dueling. Carrying out a series of strokes in the air he aimed his wand forward, straight at Mizael before tilting the tip downward instead] Hydro geyser! [The water beneath his opponent, foamed and bubbled until a shaft of water shot upward to strike at the platform and ideally throw off the others balance. A little underhanded, maybe, but alls fair in a duel of magic]

[Well hey, that is already better than a few of his previous opponents, and he's certainly more flashy than any of them have been. Mizael can definitely appreciate the flashiness (and he is absolutely going to be looking up that particular shielding spell later because wow is that his aesthetic or what).

He is slightly less appreciative of the attack on the platform rather than at himself, but it's not like it's against the rules, and he's pretty unconcerned about it otherwise. As if a human could knock him off his feet so easily.

Mizael blocks the stream of water with a sweep of his hand and a muttered spell. That hand then keeps going behind his back and so does his wand, and then he throws both forward with another spell, on that's much more like grabbing the water with telekenesis than Chazz's had been, but it's a similar effect--twin streams of water shoot out from behind Mizael and straight at Chazz, one at his chest and the other right at his face. It's mostly a distraction, though, because almost immediately after, Mizael throws out his hand again to throw a much larger wave of magic at him.]
