Test Drive #2

Test Drive #2

That Wand Is a Wonder!

You pulled down a book from a tall shelf in the Library of Starchime and promptly got hit in the head by a wand that was resting atop it. It looks innocuous, a cylinder of wood, but as soon as you pick it up, light streams out of the end. The barest motion is enough to make fantastic colors, and with a gesture you send light streaming across the library!

Light is all it does, right? Right?

Pranks for the Memories

Diatu Magicademy is a school -- one with different social groups, different Houses, different classes, different levels of experience... in short, pranks are inevitable. The latest one to make the rounds is the Sticky Glyph: step on a certain mathematical rune and the next person you touch sticks to you like glue. Casually brush against them, shake their hand, bump backwards into them -- however you did it, you have a new friend now, like it or not. The glyph wears off in about an hour -- do you wait it out, ask for help, or try to undo it yourself?

The Dueling Club

One of the more popular magical clubs, the Dueling Club is precisely as it sounds: wizards crossing spells, each trying to be the one to 'defeat' their opponent. How to do that varies by the sort of duel -- knocking your opponent off a platform, or getting them wet, or just good old rendering them unable to keep dueling. Less experienced students, like you, get the "water duel" treatment. Use your spells to get your opponent off of their stool in a small pool of water before they do the same to you! Losing means soggy shoes and a laugh at your expense; winning means pride, respect, and a chance for advancement into the club's informal ranks.

Chimera!

Transporting chimera is highly illegal without proper permits -- which is precisely why smugglers do it, and precisely why smugglers are valiantly struggling to extinguish their airship, while the beast responsible ambles down the gangplank and people flee like crazy. A small chimera, its shoulders are about shoulder height to a man. The goat head jabs at the cargo and building it passes, the lion head maintains a watchful forward guard, and the dragon head has taken the "burn it all, burn it all!" approach to greeting its new circumstances.

This is your chance to be a hero, and save the city of Anastara from certain doom at this beast's claws, heads, horns, and fiery breath. Or your chance to run like heck and hope it doesn't notice you.

"Not as lame as you. Erase? Really? You think that thing is going to listen to you? You can't even talk sense."

Screw wands. Riku glanced around the rubble: it wasn't hard to find a broken piece of railing, and he snatched it up, already feeling far more at home.

"Either one of you: come get it."

He grinned... and jumped onto the monster's back. "One of us wants to stop it, the other wants to help it run wild. You do that math. You players are all GARBAGE! CRUNCH! We'll add you to the heap!" He pounded his fist into his palm.

"You said that already. Get some new lines."

With that, Riku rushed forward, dropping low into a slide to try and take the chimera's front legs out from underneath it.

He urged the now under attack creature into the air. "Plus height, minus you!" he called down to Riku, quite amused.

Something like this was nothing against Glide and High Jump. He launched himself into the air ... a grand two feet.

"What -"

Right, he realized, with a sinking sort of almost-panic. No Keyblade, no Wielder powers. But he could still improvise. He'd been sparring with Sora, Wakka, and Tidus for ages before Xehanort had opened the Door. He dashed for the nearest building, vaulting himself up onto an awning, then a windowsill, for extra height, and then to a nearby tree.

"Check your math again!"

He laughed. "I'll FOIL you yet, player!"

"Keep telling yourself that. I'm happy to keep proving you wrong." He started climbing up and through the branches, hoping to find one both strong and large enough to give him a way to the chimera. If he could get on the thing's back, too, he could take this loudmouth down, and maybe subdue the monster, too. It looked like something out of Olympus Coliseum, and those monsters had always been fond of wanton property destruction. The more of that he could prevent, the better.

He grinned. "That tree is garbage!" he called, guiding the chimera. It sailed past, smashing the bark with claws and smashing it with its tail the snake head hissing up at Riku.

"CRUNCH! We'll add it to the pile. We;ll get the log for your inverse function!"
likemyselfagain: (startled)

[personal profile] likemyselfagain 2019-02-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
He doesn't know what an inverse function is, but the log pun is pretty bad. When the tail connects with the tree, he grabs for a higher branch to try and keep his balance, and ends up hanging from it, dropping the debris he'd meant to use as a weapon.

This is really, really, not good.

Sho grinned, bringing the beast around for another pass so he could make a casual seeming grab up for Riku's ankle while the tree took another assault. "Branching out to a new form of math won't help you add to your remaining days, player."
