| Welcome to the April activity check for Diatu Magicademy! A reminder of our rules: Activity is valid for posts made between the close of applications in May and the close of applications in June -- so this month, any activity made between Wednesday, May 1, and 8 PM Eastern time, Wednesday, June 5th. Activity must be submitted by Saturday, June 8th at 8 PM Eastern time. Also, as a reminder, the results of your Actions will be posted as a response to your activity check. If you haven't chosen any, you have until AC closes to do so. For rewards for playing out the consequences of Research on the Sundered threads, please link to them here. V's question, done IC, of course.:
V stared at them for a moment when they offered to answer one question as a thank you for the aid in this research. It might be hard, generally, to read expressions in those odd mismatched eyes, but there was emotion there. At the moment? Incredulity. Just... V seemed to be utterly shocked just then. "You... are going to answer a question for us...." V was stunned. But not, sadly, at a loss for words. "Are you actually serious? We have been here for months now, some of us. Months. That is out of strip time months. Hundreds of strips at least! You claimed when we arrived at the first that this was some sort of freak accident based upon magic that had long been forbidden, for seemingly good - to you at the least- reason. And yet here we are, countless strips and entries later being forced to endure your questions and experiments and for what? New people are still being dragged from their homes on a regular basis and dropped into this place, just as we had been! The character bio page has grown exponentially! So somehow someone is still bringing us here, despite your assurances that this is forbidden magic, and yet you lot cannot even figure out between us how to send us home! So tell me why. Why should we care about getting an answer from you when we know that whatever you do answer would be either incorrect, a guess, or perhaps you would simply shrug and admit to your ignorance. Which might there be the single most intelligent thing you have done for any of us to date! You are not oracular! You have no knowledge that I have seen any evidence of that you could possibly impart to me that would be of any value!"
"Perhaps instead of harassing those of us who have been displaced by your apparent incompetence at keeping forbidden magic actually forbidden, perhaps you should spend that effort tracking down the ones who apparently succeeded in what you are trying to study not once by a fluke but constantly and consistently! Questioning them would certainly provide more answers about how to send us home than questioning us has!"
"Unless, of course, helping us has never been the goal in the first place! While I fully endorse a search for more knowledge about the arcane workings of esoteric magic, this is not the way to go about it! Lying to us accomplishes little, especially as soon as someone with a decent charisma modifier" which would NOT be V, clearly, "takes twenty on a basic sense motive check!"
"So obviously you are either incompetent or lying. In either case, why in the world should I, or any Sundered with an INT above ten want or trust any answer you might offer?!"
Sho's question.
He would toss the circle with the pi of exactly three towards them. "You have X=2 choices for questions, answer whichever one you choose. How exactly does this calculate without violating the basic rules of math? or how do I become Composer of this UG by the end of the month? And I expect you zetta sons of digits to let me know which one you are answering, and 42 is not the zetta answer to either." He should know, he ran the numbers already.
Xion's question:
After a long moment, and presuming she was alone with them when she got to ask, she would take a deep breath. She had a million questions and didn't know where to start or who really to ask. So maybe they would know, and maybe if she asked one of the ones she was afraid to ask Axel because it would hurt him... "What is the worst that will be done to us if we get into trouble here or fail to meet expectations?" she asked softly. Axel kept saying that no one here could or would Dusk her. That Saïx wasn't working with the authorities here to trap her into getting into trouble so she could be Dusked or eliminated. But... she had to know.

Electing not to answer the question that sounds like gobbledegook, the researchers instead inform him that the circle has been Modified. Which is the beginning and the end of the answer. It literally has had the value of pi set to three, with nothing else about it affected at all. It doesn't make mathematical sense, but it makes magical sense, and magic is more fundamental than math.
Xion gets told, quite gently, that if the Sundered get into trouble, they'll be treated just as fairly as any other student, and if they do poorly, they'll have the chance to keep taking those classes or try different ones. The administration will never expel a Sundered student, because that would be fatal, so they'll have a place here as long as they need one.

Xion however has one follow up that they may or may not answer:
Looking up from under her hood, a sense of hopelessness seeming to emanate from her. "What about someone like me who has never truly been alive?" she whispered. "I can't really die, since I don't really exist. So it isn't something Somebodies other than Ax.... Lea would care about. Would I get expelled or turned into a Dusk if I made trouble for the wrong people, like getting into fights?"

Xion gets a puzzled look, then the researches patiently explain that she absolutely exists and is alive by all meaningful measures, and that no matter what other people might say, in the view of the Magicademy and thus then Tenscore Kingdoms at large, she is no different than anyone else for any purpose. So everything they said is still true.
Thank you, for this.
