Test Drive #1

The Airship There
By carriage or coach, spellwagon or ship, perhaps even on the wings of magic, the Sundered heed the call to gather at the Tenzin High Dock of Vulbaria. On this, the appointed day, a great passenger airship sits in the dock, the seals of the six Houses fluttering from flagpoles along her length and her wooden planks atremble as if it is eager to be off. At last, the gangplank descends, and the Hand of Diatu opens her doors to the Sundered so they can take their first step on the path towards protection and salvation.
Inside, you may choose from long comfortable couches, broad circular tables surrounded by straight-backed, cushioned chairs, or viewing seats at the glass front of the ship. Sundered who need special accommodations are quickly provided for, ensuring everyone travels in comfort. Trays drift through the air periodically, offering snacks and drinks to the passengers.
This may be the first chance you've had to truly relax since being swept to this strange world. Certainly it is the first chance you've had to meet your fellow Sundered. As the airship lifts gracefully off from the High Dock, your journey to Diatu begins. Excited? Nervous? Simply angry? Or perhaps searching among the crowd here for a familiar face or some sign of hope?
Rain, Rain...
Welcome to Diatu Magicademy. It's raining.
Seriously raining. One of those downpours that feels like a curtain has dropped on you, that soaks to the bone within a second of stepping into it. Obviously, this won't do, and a civic-minded cluster of Purifeul students has taken it upon themselves to solve this problem. No sooner do you step through the gates then you practically run into a giant and complex runic diagram being drawn out with long staffs by several students, all of them speaking seeming nonsense about derivatives, limits, and equations. Magic! In action right before your eyes!
And yet, just as their mathemagics wind towards the center of the diagram and they all make their final stroke -- one student slashes his line off on a weird tangent, speaking an equation that sounds nothing at all like what his fellows utter. The spell completes... weirdly, as the students look in horror at each other. The temperature abruptly drops seventy degrees, and a cold wind begins to blow.
Welcome to Diatu Magicademy. Please get out of the blizzard before you freeze.
Thaumaturgy 101
After some fifteen minutes of grumbling from Professor Loshakle, followed by half an hour of theory and basics, the grouchy old man finally gets to drawing a magical symbol on the board. "This is straight out of Fundamental Principles of Wizarding," he says, writing Sense Magic next to the symbol. "As is everything you'll learn here. I'll emphasize yet again, you MUST know the name of the spell and the proper gestures. You can't simply wave your wand in any old pattern and say any old words. That isn't how it works," he says, glaring around the class as if daring someone to question him.
But he gives no one the opportunity, instead producing a wand and making the gesture to trace the symbol he'd drawn in midair. "Sense Magic," he intones, and the air and his wand both shimmer.
"Now. You all try." Just like that. What the Professor doesn't mention is that this spell can produce some very interesting results if the symbol is off, or the timing...
Bala-inlota Practice
Bala-inlota is the main interaction the Magicademies have with each other -- the sport of wizards! Two teams take the field, with the goal of heaving a ball through their opponent's hoop. The rules primarily revolve around not inflicting lethal injury, because bala-inlota is a free-for-all at best, where each team relies on both physical and magical might to win the day.
You kind of wish someone had told you this BEFORE you got hauled onto the field so the coach could see if you've got what it takes.
Now half a dozen players are charging down the field at your ragtag group of semi-willing recruits, while another half-dozen are preparing spells that you've been absolutely assured aren't as nasty as the ones deployed in actual play. On your side: the ball, your wits, your physical ability, and maybe three classes's worth of magical education.
On the upside, magic is pretty good at healing.
Takane Shijou | The iDOLM@STER
[If there was one thing Takane was good at, it was being highly accepting of every situation that befalls her, no matter how surreal or confusing. Which is why she'll gracefully seat herself onto one of the viewing seats, helping herself to the mystical view, as well as the snacks that were constantly offered by the floating trays.
Lots and lots of snacks, actually. Somehow, she's managed to procure a plate and pile it high with various pastries, sandwiches, and other finger foods that she couldn't quite identify, but would give a try nonetheless. She just eats. And eats. And eats. Somehow, she still doesn't get quite enough, and continues to refill her plate from any other tray passing by. And despite all this rampant gluttony, she manages to somehow keep the display graceful and tidy.
In the midst of her gobbling, something catches her eye, and she turns her attention to you:]
I beg you good pardon, my esteemed peer. If it is of no convenience, might you be able to pass along to me teacup floating there?
II. Thaumaturgy 101
[Ah, she is so cold. Even despite being sufficiently dried up and given a uniform as a change of clothes after that whole rain and blizzard fiasco, Takane can still feel the chill in her bones. Not that many around her could tell, as she remains quiet and attentive towards the lecture, trying her best to take notes like a good student.
When it comes to practicing the basic spell, however, despite tracing the symbol quite well with her wand---]
Sense Magi---CHOO! [Messing up the incantation with a heavy sneeze, instead of sparkling, her wand fires out a bolt of magic at the nearest person. You know that static shock you get sometimes when you touch a doorknob? It feels like that, but times twenty.]
III. Bala-inlota Practice
[Why yes, this is a ball in her hand. Takane stares blankly at the foreboding team hurdling towards her own like a violent tidal wave, almost as if she doesn't register the impending threat of misery that was coming towards her and her team mates. However, in a quick second, her eyes and attention suddenly sharpen as they get closer, and she chucks the ball towards you, standing a bit closing to the center of the field.
She readies her wand, and stares down the approaching opposing team.]
My esteemed peer! Offense is the greatest defense! Run forth, to glory...!
Thaumaturgy 101
He grasps a hand at his chest, startled from the gap in his breathing, but already the sensation starts to tingle away as if nothing had happened. His eyes are wide as he regains his senses, looking back towards the direction of the bolt. His breathing is still a bit heavy, and he isn't able to get any words out, but his expression probably says it all regardless.]
no subject
My goodness... My most sincerest of apologies, good sir. Had I known what sort of consequence would befall as a result, I'd have more resolve to hold it within myself. Are you quite all right...?
[She gingerly offers a hand to help him to his feet.]
no subject
Pay it no mind; it was merely an accident. I am unharmed, so you needn't concern yourself over that.
[Though, he does take note of the intensity of the shock from just a simple sneeze... They had been told time and time again that their magic was dangerous, but this serves to highlight the truthfulness of that statement.]
What of yourself? Do you feel out of sorts in any way?
no subject
'Out of sorts,' you say... If I am allowed to be so frank, my head does feel as if it is stuffed with cotton. And I am dreadfully cold, yet uncomfortably warm at the same time...
[That's called a cold, darling. Indeed, it seems like her face is gaining a flush, and despite her reserved posture, she does seem to be wobbling slightly.]
no subject
[He does notice these details, and in combination with the sneeze that set off this series of events, it doesn't take much processing to identify the cause. He quickly reaches for her shoulders, afraid that she might faint, and once he's certain that she is steadied, he carefully releases one to place the back of his hand gently against her forehead.]
We must get you to a chirurgeon at once! Do you feel capable of walking?
no subject
Hmm, his hand is pleasantly cool.]
Y-Yes, I believe so... [No, she isn't. She's going to attempt to stumble out the door anyway.]
no subject
If any time it proves too difficult a task for you to manage, you need only say the word, and I shall accommodate you. Perhaps there is some magic that may provide assistance as well.
no subject
I am grateful for your kindness, good si--- [Ah, perhaps she spoke too soon, as she stumbles a bit, failing to notice the slightly out-of-place floorboard and subsequently unable to avoid. Despite this, her words as she begins her descent is a rather deadpan:]
Oh dear...
[Such an under-reaction.]
no subject
But, that can't be helped. He starts to adjust himself so that he can carry her on his back, helping her arms to wrap around him while he tries to support her.]
Don't worry; we shall be there before you realize it!
no subject
Where was that, anyway? Okay, maybe she'll have to relent to this stranger's kind gesture. She locks her arms around his neck from behind, ready to be piggybacked to wherever they can get some help with this.]
I am... most in your debt, good sir. Truly, you have my gratitude. [She'll definitely need to think of a way to thank him later.] Rarely do I fall ill, so I am at a bit of a loss on my own... as shameful as it is to admit.
airship
She holds the cup just out of Takane's reach, but not high up or anything. No, she's not being rude. Just high-handed in a purely metaphorical sense. ] Though your company at my table would delight me more.
[ Your choice, mademoiselle. But there are...uneaten pastries at the table at which Hibiki had been sitting.
Just an aside, that. ]
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
But, once she hears the subtle request in joining this princely-looking person, she lowers that hand to her mouth, as if to cover her light giggle.]
Fufu... Is that so? If that it is all you ask for, then I shall oblige. Time is consumed in greater quantities when conversation is present, after all.
!! d-do you....know hibiki....;a;
[ She's unaccustomed to waiting, you see. And yet, given the ambience aboard this vessel, she can't say it's an unpleasant place to pass the time...
Hibiki places Takane's teacup on her table, then, across from where she's setting her own. ] Do make yourself comfortable.
[ The better so she can assess your aura. That bearing, though. That poise. Well, this isn't a wasted trip into a new primension, after all.
Hibiki suspects she has attracted a fellow Celebrity. ]
I DO i love pripara
The way that many rich people do.]
It would seem that we still have quite a lot of ground to cover before we are to land.
\o/ i-i will try to provide Top Quality amore, then...
[ Hibiki's inner Celebrity Sensor would be clanging loudly, if that weren't a rowdy and disruptive notion. It's pealing gracefully, thank you very much, and the timbre of the notes pleases her.
As such, she smiles at Takane. It's a very....sparkly...smile. More observation is needed before she can draw any final conclusions, but she's sufficiently intrigued to conduct, ah,
in-depth research. ]
Spending a leisurely time with you, above the clouds.....it's like meeting a goddess in the halls of Heaven.
no subject
Fufu~ That is very kind of you to say. Please let it be known that your flattery is met with utmost gratitude. I must say, you are rather charming yourself, if I must conclude based on first impressions, good miss.
[Yep, in a way, Takane's intuition is just as sharp, despite her somewhat air-headed demeanor.]
no subject
[ We're breaking out the unnecessary English. Things are getting serious.
From the way Hibiki won't take her eyes off Takane, no one else may as well exist. The only other thing Hibiki gives this much attention on a regular basis is the mirror. ]
May I have your name?
no subject
I am one known as Takane Shijou. Though I am still rather out of my bearings and are ignorant to our circumstances, please let it be known that our cooperation is met with anticipation. [She straightens herself, smiling pleasantly.] And may I also have the privilege of knowing your name...?
no subject
[ Don't mind her reach. She's going to try and obtain one of those hands, now, so she may bestow a kiss upon it. ]
One who would dedicate their everything to you.
[ .....for the duration of the airship ride. ]
no subject
... I am most honored, Hibiki. [Ah, such a sentimental name. She immediately misses home.] Let us both do our best in this academy. Fufu~ I cannot say that this is an unfamiliar setting to me.
no subject
[ Hibiki purposely picks the most Exciting possible interpretation, though she doesn't seem like she'll be upset about being wrong.
Takane's hand is returned to its owner, and Hibiki picks up her teacup again, prepared to focus, as promised, her entire attention on her companion. She just might survive this puniversal tour after all. ]
no subject
Fufufu~ I suppose you could say that I do, but do not at the same time. [Oh dear, she should probably direct this misunderstanding she's caused.] The setting of the latest film I was cast in was also an academy that taught magic and spells. I quite had a delightful experience, playing the role of villain.
no subject
[ A commonality! Surely this is a chance for Hibiki to find out more about her companion! ]
My interest wasn't misplaced.
[ ....or take credit for. Something. Everything. Sure, okay.
Hibiki. ]
