He needs to become a politician and he's not breaking his promise to try to become a Strahl member, so it's something that he can't actually do.

He comes from an absolutely unmagical world (besides the part where one of his closest friends can talk to flowers and sometimes has brief visions of the future) and he has no idea what he's getting himself into, but movement is his element, far more than sitting at a school bench-
Of course he's also a bit clumsy in a very inelegant fashion, and as a result, well.
Lets say that he accidentally crashed into someone preparing a spell and it's caused some unwanted effects. The mud rain is only one thing that may be the result. He really didn't mean it. ]
