But it's close enough that Al's eyes are watching the other student's work with a slowly growing beginning of understanding regarding what they're doing.
It's then that he notices the one boy's slash going wild and Al's eyes widen (as much as they do anyway, it's mostly the glow inside that widens a bit). He moves quickly to shield someone near him, clanking with the quick, aggressive motions. Luckily for Alphonse, the sudden drop in temperature won't affect him—and he's relieved the result wasn't some kind of explosion either. He looks down at the person he'd just shielded and lets out a weak laugh.]
