April Game Announcements
A Word From Your Mod Team
We've seen the energy and enthusiasm you have all brought to this game, and it heartens us greatly. We could ask for nothing more than you loving this game!
What Changes Are Coming?
Though we haven't processed AC yet, a review of posted Actions suggests that we have no no mechanics to implement this month. Instead, we will be focusing on the Colormarch.
From your activity check this month and last month, we will sum up the total points applied to each House, add in a random weight to reflect the many students who are not unfortunately blessed with the status of being PCs, and post the winner of the Colormarch along with just what they have won. Rewards for victory in the Colormarch vary vastly based on the judgment of the faculty and the whims of Headmaster Birony, and can range from a sum of money to special access to a restricted area to a trip off to some faroff exotic land such as Noa, Kragheim, or that Denny's that showed up after a botched Sundering spell.
Each month, the Colormarch will be recalculated, adding new points to half the score of the previous month. Your old work gives you an advantage, but you can't just shoot ahead and then rest on your laurels the rest of the year!
As a reminder: in general, if we think your actions can result in a fun mechanic, we'll develop one for it to reflect your off-camera time in Diatu. Let us know if you have more ideas you wish to pursue!
This Month In Diatu
Late Spring Weather is, unlike the past month, much better and nicer! Rain has tapered off from terrible and constant lightning storms to gentle showers here and there, and the rest of the days are sunny, increasingly warm, and clear as fine glass. This time of year sees outdoor activities pick up more constantly, and even some of the more lenient professors occasionally hold class outdoors (frequently causing panic, in Professor King's case). The only downside to these days is the wind, which can roar across the island with sudden force with no warning at all. Those familiar with these sudden gales know to keep their possessions held tight or fastened down, mind their hats, and never spread their robes so they catch the wind! The Campus Greenery looks magnificent in its full spring finery. Green grass and radiant flower gardens bracket all the major walks on campus, and fragrant scents fill the air all around. Though these flowers attract fist-sized bees, the bees are extremely genial and courteous so long as they are unharrassed by familiars. Numerous trees around the campus have burst into either bloom or greenery as well, although some are exactly as strange as one would expect on the Magicademy campus and have grown shingles or eyeballs instead. No one likes the eyeball tree.
Bala-inlota Fever Continues after the Striking Fists of Diatu defeated the Exarthin Wildfires by a score of 142-Flibberdigibet. Everyone knows that the strategy of Modifying the opponent's score to Flibberdigibet two seconds before the end of the game won't easily work a second time, so speculation goes all ways as to what the Fists will do in their next game. Betting has become a popular pastime, and while some enterprising students try to earn some money by playing bookie, plenty others use Intimation to try to game that system and place wagers that will return to them tenfold. The faculty is singularly intolerant of this behavior and detentions are flying like Bala-Inlota players' teeth after a vicious exchange of Grow-and-Eject-Teeth spells, but this has only encouraged enthusiasm for the illicit gambling.
This Month In Anastara
A Book Sale seems unlikely to end soon after a prestigious local wizard passed away and left his estate to heirs quite uninterested in his library. Books ranging from mundane ("A History of Oclure During the Insurrection") to fantastic ("Dragon Abdominal Anatomy") to extremely dusty ("How To Cook Humans") to magically spectacular ("The Codification of Sundering") go on the shelves or on the auction block, depending on what the estate thinks will earn the most money. Every student wants to get their hands on something in this pile, but can they afford it...?
Adventures
As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days. There are new adventures, so check them out!
We were asked a question which we want to answer generally: you may undertake a new adventure this month even if you are still in an adventure from previous months.
We also want to encourage everyone to involve others in your adventures! Though it is possible to do many adventures solo, we intend them as opportunities for characters to mix and mingle.
Actions
To represent characters working long-term towards a goal, you can submit up to two actions on the appropriate comment below that your character will be focusing their time towards (or one action twice). This can range from studying, to exploration, to trying to gain points for the Colormarch, to buttering up NPCs, to others. At the end of the month, once you submit AC, you will be given your results.
Feedback and the Future!
We have and will always have these same questions: where would you like to see the game go? Is there a focus you'd like from us? Something you want to see? Some way in which we can improve? What is working well, and what do you enjoy? For example, an NPC inbox or ways to interact with the NPCs in detail; house events or inter-house competitions; large-scale adventure plots? This is your place to have fun as much as it is ours to run, so we want to know what you like and what you would like!
Monthly Mod Plans
We accomplished most of our major goals from last month, so let us detail our plans for this one:
- Update Locations to include all new discovered areas (monthly)
- Update Adventures with new options (monthly)
- Create a Religion page to explain the religion of the Tenscore Kingdoms (past due)
- Adjudicate the Colormarch

The magic spork proceeds apace, and is ready for a new round of judging thanks to bizarre double-elimination rules!
You have passed this test with a roll of ∞ (20, +∞ for being a D&D character who rolled a natural 20).
The spork is a phenomenal hit! Despite one or two critics who insist it is 'obvious', the supremely utilitarian concept catches on like wildfire after the empaneled judges try it out. But to your horror, a man emerges from the crowd claiming HE invented the spork and you stole it! To back his claim up, he presents numerous design documents and failed models such as the spife and the crab crackork. How shall you handle this?
For Xion:
Bullying is a way of life for some students, of course. Despite most if not all of the students being legal adults, some just never seem to grow out of the phase. But today... today they've crossed from pranks and cruelties to outright sadism. A student is pinned between two of them, arms held, while the third smirkingly throws punches into their chest and stomach. Are you seeing this? Did someone come to you for help? Or are you the student in question...?
For Sho:
Diatu's grounds cover what used to be a town of its own, and not a town that has never seen bloodshed. Now, rumor speaks of a former battlefield somewhere in its depths, and an upcoming convergence of the stars that will make a spell of Sundering trivial to perform there -- one that allegedly brings back the spirits of the misbegotten dead, where they will serve the wizard faithfully. Most people laugh this off as fanciful rumor, but surely one or two are willing to give it a try. Do you stop them? Or are you one?

Handling this is simplicity in and of itself. After all, V from the first had put one very specific spell onto the Spork, and yes, later versions had the spell removed, V still had a copy of that first prototype. V held it up, and walked over to the challenger. "Those who originally commissioned me for this inane bit of crafting doubtlessly recognize my first submission, but I will not ask you to simply take the word of credible witnesses, for that would require a lengthy court case featuring those two idiot lawyers, taking at least fifty panels. And frankly, none of us have that kind of time at the moment. So instead, I ask you to turn your model over and look carefully at the underside. Then do the same with my prototype." Which V then handed over. "Feel free to read outloud what you find on the underside of my design, I am certain you will find the evidence sufficiently compelling."
Because on the underside of the spork was etched six simple words. "I prepared Explosive Runes This Morning."
The spell causes the item to blow up in the face - and in this case hands - of whoever read the spell, either out loud or to themselves, other than the caster. It had long since become V's standard method for handling disputes.

Unfortunately, V immediately has every wizard there hurling spells of subdual and imprisonment so he can be taken in from the lesser crime of Assault With A Deadly Spell. It turns out that exploding people who are not in a webcomic has consequences!
ROFL. V didn't expect any SERIOUS damage.
Why not, using his auto roll vision of foresight thingit?
Because a group of the dead serving him? Sounds like a shortcut to being the Composer.

That is about the best outcome possible for the "actively attempt to enslave the dead" side of this scenario.
Upon completion of the spell, a great ghostly-white mass rises from the ground, engulfing Sho and all around him with a freezing and unearthly cold. A moment later it is gone.
But it will be back.
Please post to this thread again once the May intro and event log has gone up. You will understand why then.

Sho wouldn't fight unless LEa started it, so it looks like they're both going to just ask and let her pick.

We're surprised she has standards too.

Bullies bullies everywhere and not a pause to think as the conclusion to The earlier run ins with the bullies.
Or I guess... continuation? Axel and Isa are reporting this, so we will see how that pans out. (If IRL is any indicator, probably won't actually matter much. But I am glad that they are trying, for her sake.)

The bullies get the message. They leave Xion alone, because that flame-head guy scares the crap out of them and they think Sunset is kind of cute and feel awkward about upsetting her.
But that only means they've moved on to other targets. Xion can still see them around, picking on smaller and weaker victims just as mercilessly as they had her.
