Test Drive Redux #2

- All test drive threads are canon. Characters on the TDM who do not app are considered to have been sent home promptly. Current characters may use TDM prompts in the communities, but we ask that only prospective characters top-level here.
Welcome to Diatu (I Like Swords)
- Just like that, you're here.
A helpful staffperson quickly and efficiently explains the situation, hands you a pamphlet for further reading. She tells you what House you belong to (you're pretty sure you just imagined the sound of rolling dice) and just what that means. If you want a slice of pie, you get that. If you want a hug, you get that too. If you want to sing a song about your new circumstances and what it means for your personal growth and development, she's pretty good with Fantastics so you can do that too. If you desperately want to punch someone... there's a straw dummy with a sign hanging from it that reads VENT AGGRESSION HERE.
And with all that out of the way, you're taken outside, to the first glimpse of the radiant blue sky above the floating island of Ascelion, and the magnificent buildings and grounds of Diatu Magicademy. Your new home, for now. Welcome.
A Day In The Life
- The sun is bright, the temperature is absolutely gorgeous, clouds keep drifting directly through the island and engulfing people, the trees are changing color and shape in ways both lovely and Lovecraftian... summer yields to fall on Ascelion, and the day is ripe for learning. Or as ripe as Diatu Magicademy ever can be -- though no one would trade the character and charm of the lively campus for some stodgy, regimented school more interested in forcing students into the mold than encouraging them to be their best, sometimes conditions in the Magicademy are a little inconvenient.
A demon of storms, accidentally summoned by a student trying to do his Sundering homework, roams the grounds both inside and out. It conjures personal, localized storms over students, refusing to let up until they sign over their immortal souls. Clever negotiators can bargain it down to half a sandwich, but many choose to just fight back. Luckily, the demon isn't terribly strong, but the forces of weather are indeed at its command (in a 4x4x9 area).
Someone spilled a smarts potion on one of Headmaster Birony's Thinking Spells, and now a giant ethereal brain roams the campus, furiously seizing students with telekinetic powers and demanding they debate on a variety of philsophical topics. Can a god truly be concerned with humanity? Which Curriculum of magic is the strongest and most important? What is best in life? It thirsts to learn and understand! On the other hand, if you bore it too much it might leave for no raisin.
An entire wing of the Library of Starchime is closed! Though this is incredibly inconvenient to all concerned, the librarians shoo students away with warnings that a Fantastics spell has gotten stuck on 'psychological torment' and they are busy trying to find an emotionally healthy and well-adjusted wizard to go in and dispel it. Since that likely won't happen before the heat death of the universe, many students determined to access the study material they need go in regardless, citing campus bylaw 515(b) ("Just let them be stupid, we can't stop them" ~introduced: Prf. Loshakle, approved: 5-3, reference section 2(a)-(f), "Corpse Disposal (student)".) Are you among the brave, or at least the kind that really care about their grade?
Scavenger Hunt!
- A mysterious message circulates on the BBS: a list of strange and obscure items, like "a three-headed snake" or "the essence of sunlight" -- the sort of baffling semi-metaphorical crap you'd expect from this hack fantasy setting, if you're inclined to take a cynical view that makes us cry. The instructions say to simply gather all of these items, then present them to Professor Ire; he will reward all who participate.
If you think to actually ask Professor Ire if he is in fact on board with this, he says he is, but gives you a bag of candy because you exhibited independent thought and proper skepticism in the face of... well, here he just waves vaguely at Diatu in general, trusting you know what he means. If his reward for sensible thinking is that good, the one for the actual scavenger hunt must be incredible, right?
There's One in Every Test Drive
- Not every magical disaster is caused by some wayward student you don't know. Many of them are caused by you instead. To wit: you're on the spot in one of the magical labs, being called on to demonstrate a technique more advanced than others you've mastered so far. Failure is expected, and the wards should prevent any injury to others from a miscast spell. But will the sparks of your magic just sputter out and die? Or will you inadvertently mispronounce, misform, misshape, or miscalculate in a way that brings chaos to you and your lab partner?
(You could also manage to succeed in casting the spell, but that isn't very fun.)

Aqua | Kingdom Hearts | TON OF CRAU
Aqua staggered as she arrived. She stopped herself from crashing into the welcome person and anyone who had also just arrived as the update came to her. As everything caught up. She had been heading out for a mission and then... here. With still new memories.
Her lips twitched slightly as she touched her chest gently. "I'm getting to be like Sora," she said to herself, amused. Where there were many different people in Sora's heart, there were many different versions of herself in her heart. And connections...
Her heart now connected to so many people. She had more wayfinders now. But the one that connected her to Terra and Ven... through every set of memories, every interaction, every iteration of her... that Wayfinder was always the same. Even though she knew there were as many versions of them as there were of her, the core of each remained, their hearts were always the same. Always connected.
"Terra. Ven," she whispered, but not with anguish. With hope. Data Aqua's sense of hope settling within her.
A Day In The Life
Aqua was seized, but not alarmed. In fact, anyone coming up to her after a while they'll find her sitting crosslegged in the hold, finishing up a fascinating conversation on the nature of the heart.
She smiled at the approaching fellow student or teacher. "Hello," she said after being let down gently with a parting thought from the floating brain.
One In Every Test Drive
Aqua knew well that every skill requires practice and that few things are pocked up the first time. It was best to practice when there were experts on hand to teach and protect. So when she was called upon to demonstrate the new spell they were learning - a special effects spell that was supposed to create a cloud of confetti - she had no hesitation. She was running through the steps in her mind as she came to the front. Then she closed her eyes and focused. When she was ready, she opened her eyes and began the spell. The cloud started to form, though it looked different than when demonstrated. And when it popped, instead of a cloud of confetti, the class was showered by a gently exploding cloud of... spaghetti....
Kyoko Mogami - Spoilers - Avalon CRAU (CW: emotional whiplash, possible abuse mentions, dark magic)
Kyoko was... so confused. And overwhelmed. Thankfully she had been cleaning her apartment when she vanished in Avalon and arrived here. So she was in her hot pink (the color is like a curse, once you see it it is burned onto your retnas and you can never unsee it) Love Me uniform over a white shirt rather than her coffee shop uniform or one of her costumes. Unfortunately that also meant that she was in house slippers rather than shoes.
It wasn't lucky that her most prized possessions were with her though as they always were, no matter what she wore. In fact she checked on them as soon as she realized she was somewhere else. Not only were they there, but because she had been cleaning, she was also holding her posters and the magazine they came from. Those soon got buried under the pile of things she was given. Pamphlet, uniforms, class schedule, for some reason an animal. She wandered out of the welcome area staggering under everything she was carrying and confused. This was only made worse by her trying to put on her shoes without having anywhere to put things...
Anyone want to help out the girl in the bright pink work uniform? She's not all that pretty maybe, but she'd appreciate it anyway!
A day in the life
SCHOOL! This was SCHOOL! Without having to miss classes for work. That it was MAGIC school was even better, but it was still SCHOOL. So she had to study! Had to! Even if the library was closed. So she was among the stupid who just had to get in for a few books. It would be fine, she was sure.
Scavenger Hunt
(Please note for this one, Kyoko does not look, act, sound, or move like Kyoko. She is fully in the character of Natsu. Her uniform is worn differently to show off the lovely necklace she wears. Please do not presume you can recognize her as Kyoko, because even people who know her well have trouble realizing it is her)
The teen was bored. So why not a scavenger hunt? Sounded fun. She didn't look like she was having fun though. The girl stood and moved like a female runway model, carried herself that way, except for her face. Her eyes were hard and sharp, taking in everything as she searched for the next item on the list. Her lips were pressed into a slight frown. She looked irritated. At best.
Frankly, she was bored. And if this didn't become interesting soon, she might just abandon it to find someone to bully... It had been a while since she'd seen someone squirm and cry, begging her and her friends to stop...
There's one in every test drive
She should be able to do this. She's been studying. She can create an illusion with the potions, she knew she could. She watched the first person go and create what they were told. A bat. The next person got to create a faerie. She almost died of envy and had been enraptured watching it.
Finally it was her turn. She got up, gathered her potions and started to mix. Then the instructor told her the form of the illusion. A box of valentines day chocolates wrapped with a gold bow.
In that moment, everything changed. The bouncy happy Kyoko was gone in a flash. A dark aura surrounded her. "Say that again," she said in a dark undertone, shoulders tensing. When the teacher repeated it, the room went icy cold. a dark looking spirit looking thing slid out of her shoulder and began to circle her. More and more came forth until she was in a cyclone of them. She hardly seemed to notice as she poured in the last ingredient. Flat chocolates seemed to appear, in a flat box. There was writing on them. "Death. To." before the last row could appear the whole thing exploded, showing them all with dark smoke, hiding Kyoko at the center of it...
Because there had to be a dorm crazy one...
Kyoko had been alone in the dorm when this started. She had come back in for something between classes. She didn't realize she wasn't alone any more. Over her bed were pinned up two posters. One had a lot of people and looked like a photo from a magazine. It was. Behind the scenes on the set of Dark Moon. She totally had it up as a reminder of her time playing Mio - not that anyone could pick her out in the crowd in that poster unless they knew Mio. And maybe not even then since she wasn't in the center of the picture - and not because the main people in the photo were Mr. Tsuruga dressed as Katsuki and Ms. Mimose dressed as Mizuki. Not at all because she had... nope, wouldn't even think it. Refused.
But it wasn't that poster that she was looking at. It was the other one. The creepy one. Oh, there was nothing inherently creepy about the fold out poster of the singer. No what was creepy was the dents in the wall not fully covered by jagged cut bits of paper taped around it that read things like "KILL FUWA!" and "REVENGE!"
Again, she was alone when she started, but didn't notice that someone had come in while she was screaming at the poster of the blond man. "ALL YOUR FAULT! IF I FAIL MY CLASS BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPID POISON I WILL HAUNT YOU FOREVER, SHO! I WILL END YOU! JUST YOU WAIT! I'LL RUB MY FOOT IN YOUR STUPID FACE AND YOU'LL BEG FOR FORGIVENESS FOR YOUR SINS!"
Kyoko was normally such a kind and cheerful and polite girl. But sometimes......
(Please excuse that her paid ran out and she has few icons that are actually her.)
Welcome
That is until he just came off fresh from a Draconic Knowledge class lesson, maybe heading for another class or lunch (whichever comes first), with Percy the owl by his side when he soon spots a familiar pink jumpsuit and a very familiar bundle of energy he hasn’t seen in a long while. Jaws drop and eyes widen in disbelief as he finds her trying to find her way around the campus.
“Kyoko?” he squeaks in as he finally recognizes her while trying to get his bearings back into place.
Re: Welcome
Hearing her name she spun, and nearly dropped everything. Thankfully she was on the athletic side, especially after so long in Avalon, and she managed to keep her balance.
"Harry!" she said happily. "Oh good, I can't figure out how to get to work from here," she said a bit sheepishly. "They told me to go put my stuff in the dorm. Are we really... did Avalon really give us a school? I've never been in this part of Avalon before! I'm not sure how I got here, but I'm so excited! A school! Do you think the Faeries from the woods can find us at the school?" she was a bouncing ball of energy, even with her arms full.

“Well, it is nice to see you again, Kyoko,” he happily greets her, “I do remember that Avalon had schools in Camelot, but this is a lot bigger than those schools. It reminds me of my old school which is a magical boarding school.”
On the question on the Fae, he isn’t too sure on that: he is hoping that fairies do exist in Anastara too. But he hasn’t checked on that just yet, but he still tries to remain hopeful, “I haven’t checked if I have found any of the Fae yet, but I do hope that they live in here as well.”
If that is the case, he might as well better contact Morganna to possibly fetch them once they’re done with studying in campus.

She had no clue that she was wrong, of course.
"I hope they can find us. Oh! I need to find some nice hamburger stones for Gokudera! We said we'd look for interesting stones for each other! But we only looked in the woods so far..."

He doesn’t have the heart to break to her about the new world they are in right now: the young man isn’t sure if now is the right time, especially with a busy schedule that he juggling with.
Then Percy’s concerned hoots snaps him out of his deep thoughts to realize that he has a new familiar that is neither Rose or Hedwig with him. Whoops, sorry, master just got distracted with meeting up with an old friend from Avalon.
Spoilers for Guam/Craoyla Paradise
Kyoko.exe has stopped running. Please reboot.
Because he mentioned a beach.
And sure, she'd been to visit the Lady of the Lake a few times. She helped with the clean up after all - she got a lot of clothing and random stuff that day, because she's poor and can find uses for nearly anything - but she never thought of it as a beach.
And since Guam beach meant....
Yeah, give her a moment, she's completely cycled down trying hard to not think about the one thing that happened in Guam that marred what should have been a perfect first day.
She had seen Corn. CORN! And they had spent the day together. And she helped him. But to help break his curse she had to...
She was flushing now and standing stock still, eyes wide as she remembered...
Remembered Corn on one knee, looking so much like Mr. Tsuruga, saying he loved her. Remembered the traditional way of breaking curses. But it was okay, because of the actors' rule of heart. She was fine. A kiss didn't matter if she was in character. She had to believe that. HAD TO.
Even for Corn... she had to.
But then after...
The flush darkened.
After. Before he vanished into thin air.... Before she got to see him fly... Or would have if she hadn't somehow blinked.
That last moment when he...
When he....
You could almost see smoke coming out of her ears as her flush reached critical mass and she nearly overheated.
And he had done it while looking and sounding like Tsuruga of all people! Next time she would make sure she was thinking of someone harmless. Someone like Yashiro...
Though now she was almost picturing Yashiro saying something that corny, trying something like that. The flush vanished as she fought not to burst out laughing. She just couldn't picture Mr. Yashrio like that. Mr. Takarada? That had her laughing harder. This time because she COULD picture it. She would have wrapped her arms around herself if they hadn't been full; she was full body tremorring with laughter now.
Then she realized Harry was still there. "That's it! Next time I'll think of you!" she said as if that made all the sense in the world. It was probably best if she didn't explain that, not that she'd realize how insulting it would come across. But it was safe to let Corn look like Harry, because there was no way ever her heart would beat faster if Harry said he loved her or tried to kiss her. Not at all, she was perfectly safe. She wouldn't laugh but wouldn't have trouble either. "You're perfect!" Don't ask for what, Harry... you really don't want to know.

He didn’t mention to make things even more confusing, heck, he doesn’t even remember falling for her either as he still has Ginny in his mind, albeit in a lesser extent than it was when he first began his multiverse adventure. Percy is also wondering if she is okay too as he lets out another hoot.
“Oh wait, I almost forgot,” he tries to redirect the situation as Percy flies onto his arm, “This little owl here is Percy; he is my familiar in this school and he is a bit shy but still social enough to be your friend.”
no subject
"Oh, hello, Percy!" she said happily. She bowed, which was awkward with all she was holding. "Um, I should probably put stuff down somewhere, then change into my uniform." She beamed brightly. "They gave me a school uniform!" she squealed. She might be a little too giddy about that.
no subject
“Don’t worry, we can find a place for you to put them down safely. That’s right, Kyoko. This school does require us to wear uniforms for classes and they have colours based on which houses you might be sorted into,” he chimes in while he lets Percy fly to Kyoko to let him befriend her, “There are six houses in this school: Aer et Calculum, Purifeul, Eiather, Valhudor, Gekronus Maius, and Ka.”
“For example,” he explains as he points out the silver and black robes he is wearing, “I’m in Aer et Calculum, so their house colours are silver and black. I am curious which House did they sorted you into?”

“Houses are basically groups in a boarding school that focus on a single school of magic here, build camaraderie among students, and usually live inside dorms. They are a common thing in schools in the UK, my old school even has it too. Classes are usually subjects that you take as part of your curriculum, and it also depends on which House you might be in.”

“And there is plenty of school rivalry too, even in sports: in the case of my old school, that involves chasing after metallic balls on broomsticks and score points by throwing said balls into hoops, sometimes a little golden winged ball will pop out at random intervals and someone has to catch it for their team to win. I do believe that this school has something similar but I haven’t checked it out just yet.”

She spun happily as she listened, lost in a fantasy world built by his words. A normal school life! What bliss! And one where no one hated her going in! She could jut be a normal school girl with a uniform and classes and studying!!
She was over joyed. And totally imagining Moko in a matching uniform going through school with her!
